PRESS RELEASE - 22nd JULY 2020

SIKH DISCOVER INSPIRE - THE GT 1588 INITIATIVE TO BE REBRANDED TO UNITED KINGDOM PUNJAB HERITAGE ASSOCIATION (UKPHA).

Back in early 1990s, a small group of friends, who were interested in Punjab's arts, literature, history, and traditions set up the charity United Kingdom Punjab Heritage Association (UKPHA). The organisation's roots lay in the personal journeys of its founding members who set out to discover and make sense of their cultural inheritance. Over the years we had many highlights, including the very successful Sikh Discover Inspire - The GT 1588 Initiative.

As we near our 20th anniversary, we recently relaunched with a more contemporary and standout identity.  At the same time, we wanted to amalgamate all our different exhibition websites & brands under one banner, so that we could reinforce the message about how much has been achieved with a single-minded voice over the last 20 years. Therefore, from now on, to make it completely clear we will be only using the UKPHA identity across all our communication platforms – which means, www.gt1588.com will now no longer be active and all traffic will be driven to www.ukpha.org from this date. The same holds for all our social media platforms. All the work we did under the Sikh Discover Inspire - The GT 1588, will now be part of UKPHA. We may have rebranded, but we will continue to carry out our work with the same curiosity and passion.

In case you were not aware, we have been running a UKPHA virtual book club during the pandemic. We felt it was vital to keep our community connected with the love of Punjabi heritage during these difficult times. We “meet” every Monday at 5pm GMT, via Zoom. It is free, but one needs to register to get the Zoom link to join in. We have been blessed to have talks from leading authors & experts in their fields, from Anita Anand, Vee Walker, Satnam Sanghera, Davinder Toor to academics such as Dr Khan, Gurmeet Rai, Lou Fenech & many more. Hundreds of people from around the world join us each week to learn more about our Punjabi heritage. www.ukpha.org/bookclub
